Merry Christmas!

Because of my recent addiction to watching "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" clips on YouTube (I don't have any of the DVDs yet), here are some of my favorite Christmas-related scenes from the show.

Knocking down the Christmas tree Irish Drinking song, featuring Brad Sherwood, Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles.

Christmas Hoedown, featuring Brad Sherwood, Drew Carey, Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles.

I believe Ryan is saying "fucking Mrs. Claus" at the end. Stupid censors..

And from the 2nd season of the original British "Whose Line," a game of Authors, featuring Greg Proops ( I have a total geek-crush on this guy), Sandi Toksvig, Tony Slattery and Mike McShane.

The game itself kicks in about a minute and a half in, after the introductions of all the players.

Lookit! I'm Blogging!!

Yes, I know. It's been a while.

I'm still with Josh. We've been together 6 months now and things are going great.
Here's us on Halloween.

Yes, we're going to hell.

Chele had her baby boy not even 2 weeks ago. Cameron Jackson Groskopf was 7 weeks premature and weighed 4lbs 2oz. He's now breathing 100% on his own and feeding normally. They hope to be able to bring him home by Christmas.

I left the salon the treated me like shit for 8 years and am now working at another salon that is much better so far.

Life is good. I have absolutely no complaints for a change. =]

I have also updated my music blog.

WANT!!

Dodge Challenger goes Plum Crazy Purple for 2010

Of the three classic muscle car nameplates currently on sale in the United States, the Dodge Challenger may very well sport the most retro look and feel. Whether or not that's a good thing depends on your personal point of view, but Chrysler seems happy to accept the role and is further promoting the link to Challenger's '70s heritage with a new Plum Crazy Pearl Coat color option for 2010.

In case you're not aware, Plum Crazy was the surprisingly popular deep purple hue found on the Challenger and its stablemate, the Plymouth Barracuda, during the heyday of the American muscle car wars. These days, any car originally painted up in Plum Crazy has an intrinsic value to many collectors, and it seems Dodge is hoping for a similar situation the second time around.

The purple color is only available on R/T (for $225) and SRT models (for $500) for 2010 and the package also includes Plum interior stitching and a Plum seat stripe on the SRT8. Outside, buyers can choose from either Black Dual Wide Stripes or a newly-optional set of stripes in white. Previous High Impact colors Detonator Yellow and B-5 Blue are no longer available for order.

Also new for the Challenger in 2010 is a Super Track Pack option for a reasonable $400 that allows the driver to fully disengage stability control (finally) and adds 245/45ZR20 tires from Goodyear along with an uprated suspension with Load Leveling and Height Control, Performance Steering and heavy-duty disc brakes.

No, I don't only want it because it's purple. I've had a thing for muscle cars ever since I was a kid. I will own one someday.

SOMEONE BUY THIS FOR ME!

If I could choose how I die

Man Dies At Chocolate Factory

(CNN) -- An employee at a New Jersey chocolate processing plant died Wednesday after falling into a vat of hot chocolate, according to a spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's office.

Vincent Smith II, 29, was dumping raw chocolate into the vat for melting when he fell in from a nine-foot high platform. He suffered a fatal blow to the head from the vat's agitator, a paddle-like mechanism used for stirring the chocolate.

According to the Camden County prosecutor's office, three other people were on the platform at the time. One was able to shut the machinery off quickly, but it was too late to save Smith.

The facility, owned by Cocoa Services Inc., is managed and operated by by Lyons and Sons.

The rectangular vat, which was 8 feet deep, 14 feet long and 6 feet wide, was churning a batch of chocolate for Hershey's when the accident occurred, the prosecutor's office said.

What in the hell? ETA

So yesterday morning I go to sign in on MySpace, and I get the message "Invalid Friend ID. This user has either cancelled their account, or their account has been deleted."

At first I thought it was a MySpace glitch since they're pretty common, so I tried again. Same thing. I had Josh try to see if he could view my profile page. Same thing again.

So I contacted MySpace this morning to see what the deal was. I got a return email that said I had probably violated the Terms Of Service.

Umm...no. I did not.

I emailed back asking for specifics. I haven't gotten anything back yet.

Fuck MySpace.

I'm signing up for Facebook sometime this week.

ETA: My profile is back up. I still don't know what the hell happened.

I still might do Facebook though.

Hmm...its been a while

I know I haven't been blogging much lately.

I'm back to working 6 day weeks and it's tiring.

I'm still seeing Josh and things are going really well. It's so much better than when we were going out last year. There was always this underlying awkwardness before. Maybe it was because he was leaving. Maybe it was because we didn't really know each other when we first started going out. We became friends pretty much after he left. It's just so much more comfortable now. I feel like this can really go somewhere.

Working with the public

I love doing hair. Absolutely love it.

But sometimes I really hate dealing with people.

This lady came into the shop yesterday wanting to get her hair colored. I sit her in my chair then go get the standard client consultation card and release form that anyone getting a chemical service in our shop is required to fill out.

Customer: *filling out the consultation card* "Why do you need to know how often I wash my hair? That's a little too personal."

Me: "That just helps us to analyze the condition of your hair. If you shampoo too often it can dry it out, so I'd have to take extra care with the color."

Customer: *ignores me and moves on to the release form* "Why do I have to fill this out?"

Me: "That's just a standard release form, ma'am. Anyone who gets a chemical service has to sign one."

Customer: "rude tone* "Nowhere I've ever gone has made me do this."

Me: "It's our company's policy ma'am. I can't do your color if you don't sign it."

Then she proceeds to throw the paper at me and practically yells at me that she doesn't have to sign anything and we shouldn't make people fill out a release form to cover our own asses and blah blah blah. I defend that I don't make the rules and I'm just required to follow them. Then she storms out while still bitching, saying she's going to call the home office.

Go ahead. Call home office. They'll tell you the same thing I did.

Bitch.

Seriously.

The one on the bottom left is from Monday. The rest are from last night.

I understand getting caught up in the heat of the moment. I thoroughly enjoy it while it's happening. But I never used to get marks this bad. Josh is no longer allowed anywhere near my neck.

What was I thinking?

So Matt got in touch with me a few days ago and said he wanted to see me.

Long story short, dating each other casually came up, and we were supposed to hang out last night, as per his request.

Around 4pm he texted me that he had too much going on to hang out.

I pretty much went off on him, bringing up the fact that he always had "too much going on" to see me and that I thought he frequently told me what he thought I wanted to hear, even if it was a lie, and that I was fucking over it. He had no real defense for himself, and I ended the conversation with "You really shouldn't give girls you date your Myspace password. Someday someone isn't going to be as nice as I am." I got no response to that. So I'm done.

I ended up going to Josh's last night to hang out and watch a movie. I may end up getting back with him after all. At least he actually enjoys my company.

This morning I deleted Matt from my Myspace. I feel pretty damn good about it.

Yesterday...

...was Mother's Day.

Have I ever mentoned that I have the most awesome mom ever?

Well, I do.

She's been a constant source of comfort and support when things go wrong in my life.

She's always happy and proud when things go right in my life.

She always sees the best in me and makes me want to be the best woman I can possibly be.

Even with all she's been through, and still goes through, she's always there for me, no matter what.

I love you Mom!

New developments

So I talked to Matt some more last night and he finally told me what I honestly believe is the truth.

He's not over his ex-girlfriend of 4 years who broke up with him when he was in boot camp last year. She has what he thought was his child, but he found out she'd cheated on him 3 years ago and that his little girl isn't his at all.

I knew all this from the beginning, btw.

He loves that little girl more than life, regardless of biology. And because of that love, he's stayed in touch with his ex in order to stay in the child's life. So because of the continuing contact with her, he hasn't been able to get over her.

He cares about me, but he doesn't feel ready to move on.

And you know, I believe him. And I respect how much he loves that little girl.

I know how difficult it is to stop loving someone when you're still in contact even after it's over. I've been there.

Sunday, May 3, 2009

*sigh*

So Matt just broke up with me.

He says he's got too much on his plate right now to have time for a girlfriend and that when things settle down we can get back together.

So is he completely full of shit?

I think he just might be.

I Twittered about this earlier but... (ETA)

I've decided to go ahead with my music blog.

I'm going to look around the net for a cool background or template for it. I'm no good at making such things myself.

I'm also trying to come up with a clever/witty name for it. Probably a song title or lyric. I'm taking suggestions on this one.

I hope to have it live within the next few days. I hope you all read it!

ETA: I found a template I really liked, so I put it up.

Music blog

There's no posts yet, and won't be until I come up with a title. I'm drawing a blank here, people...

Hell yeah

I'd like to introduce you, my dear readers, to the new boyfriend, Matt.

Hot, huh?

Yeah, I thought so too. =]

Friday, April 24, 2009

Oh no...

I just found out the the band No Doubt recently recorded a cover of "Stand and Deliver" by Adam & The Ants.

You can't find a good version on Youtube because of copywrites and such. But it can be found on Myspace Music.

Now, I like No Doubt and everything. Gwen Stefani has a very cool original voice.

BUT!

This cover is just not good.

And my dislike isn't about me thinking Adam Ant's songs can't be touched or anything. There's a lot of songs that I thought should never be covered that have been covered at some point, where I ended up really liking the covers. "Turn The Page" and "Another Brick In The Wall" come to mind.

But this...just...no.

I can't even pinpoint what it is I don't like about it. I just don't.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

I just may be completely insane

On Sunday I cut this VERY cute Navy guy's hair. We hit it off really well and afterwards he asked for my phone number. I happily obliged.

We texted for like 4 hours that night and a lot yesterday. He even came to see me at work last night. I had a "good morning sunshine" text from him when I woke up this morning. We have a date after I get off work Friday night.

His name is Matt. He's really sweet and funny and we get along great. And as I already mentioned, he's very cute.

But here's the kicker...he's 19.

NINE-FUCKING-TEEN.

But you know what? I don't really care all that much. He knows how old I am and he doesn't care either.

But I am aware that this could possibly cause issues in the future. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

So...am I totally nuts?

Random post

First and foremost:

Men, if you're interested in a woman, but not yet dating, DO NOT call her up and ask to borrow money. She will no longer be interested in your broke ass. What can you offer her if you can't afford to support your own damn kids? That's right. Nothing.

For some reason, I've been watching Adam Ant videos all day on Youtube. I'd forgotten how awesome (and freakin' sexy) he was. I've regressed to my old 80s New Wave self.

I have a meeting at work Saturday morning at 8am. That's way too early. I'm not happy about that at all.

Terra Mediterranean vegetable chips are incredibly tasty.

End of random post.

What's your favorite swear word?

NOTE: you might not want to watch this with children in the room.

I'm personally fond of the word "fuck." It's very multi-purpose.

I also like "cock-juggling thundercunt." It's just fun to say.

PS: Zach Braff just owns it at the end of that video. I'm going to start saying that. lol

The bad thing about working weekends

I just found out that Static-X, an industrial/metal band I love, are playing here on May 23rd.

That's a Saturday night.

I normally work Saturday nights and Sunday mornings.

I would ideally want to work day shift that Saturday and be off that Sunday to recuperate.

I'm not sure I'll be able to swing that. We're pretty busy on weekends so it's tricky getting them off.

But if I can't, I guess I can deal. I saw them twice in '07, so if I have to miss them this time, it won't kill me.

But still...

I WANNA GO!!!!

What do you think?

I'm considering starting a seperate blog to talk about music.

Rock on ancient queen

I've talked a lot on here about music I love. But it's mostly been bands or male artists. Mostly due to the fact that rock music is a male dominated genre.

However...

There is one female artist I absolutely adore. I would listen to her sing the phone book. I've seen her live, and she may just be more amazing live than she is on records.

Miss Stephanie Lynn Nicks.

Told you so!

So today I remembered a conversation I had a few months ago with Jared about Orange Fanta.

Jared said he didn't know they made Orange Fanta anymore.

He asked his brother, who said basically the same thing.

Well, here you go.

So, for this, I give you...

My newest obsession

Why is it I tend to get addicted to TV shows when the series is in its last season?

That's why God made re-runs.

I just bought Season 1 on DVD. I'll buy Season 2 next week.

Scrubs!

This about made me piss myself laughing.

Hooray for not being sick!

Or at least not as sick as I thought I was.

I haven't felt well since Sunday. But I've been just sucking it up, taking ibuprofen and going to work. Last night I had a fever of 102. This morning it was gone and I felt much better. Aside form a sore throat.

This afternoon I noticed my glands were a bit swollen and tender. With my throat still being sore I took a good look at my throat in one of the mirrors.

My left tonsil looked like someone had painted it with White-Out.

Normally, this type of pattern means only one thing with me: strep throat.

So after I got off work I went to this urgent care center up the street to get it looked at. They took a throat culture and it came back negative for strep.

But I do have tonsillitis.

10 days on antibiotics and I'll be good as new. =]

Yes, I am stupid

So I was going through some old emails on my hotmail account, and for some reason I read a bunch of old emails from my ex-boyfriend Terry. So now I'm all emotional.

Let me give you some background info.

My relationship with Terry was a long-distance one. He lives in Colorado in a suburb of Denver. We talked on IM and on the phone all the time.

Terry and I both have relationship issues. We're both kind of insecure and he had a jealous streak that didn't mesh well with the fact that I have a lot of male friends, some of which I have flirtatious friendships with. And I have abandonment issues that didn't mesh well with him not contacting me for a week or two when he got upset about my guy friends. But then I'd hear from him and he wouldn't talk about what had upset him in the first place. And we were both really stubborn, which didn't help the other issues.

When we broke up, we fought a LOT. Everything that had bothered each of us about the other came out. Sometimes in not the nicest way.

Eventually things calmed down, and one of us would email the other just to touch base and say hi.

It's been about a year since I heard from him. I emailed him on his birthday last April, to which he responded in kind.

But after reading all those emails, I feel a really strong urge to get in touch. But a part of me thinks it would be a bad idea.

What to do..?

Thursday, March 19, 2009

I'm Back!

So last Saturday my mom calls me at work and tells me the computer won't turn on. It had been working just fine that morning.

We had it looked at and tried different stuff, and our computer guy declared it not only merely dead, but really most sincerely dead.

As of today, my mom and I are the proud owners of a brand spankin' new HP w1970.

YAY!

Yesterday

...was one of those days.

I spilled juice on my keyboard and now my "2" and my "q" stick together.

I broke the glass pendant my mom's friend got me for Christmas.

I got to work to discover my boss had accidentally put her paycheck at my station and taken mine.

I almost got in an accident on my way to meet her to trade checks because some not-knowing-how-to-drive douchenozzle cut me off.

A customer treated me like I didn't know what the fuck I was doing because I was asking questions about how she wanted her hair cut. Apparently I'm supposed to "just know."

I was punched by a two-year-old who did NOT want his hair cut. Did his mom say anything? Nope.

*sigh*

I really hope today is better.

Monday, March 9, 2009

Ok so...

I know I haven't blogged in a while.

I've been working a lot and I have some personal shit going on that I'm not entirely sure I want to share. I will at some point. Just not yet.

So I leave you with this:

Found it!

Alexander the Great
by Robin Lane Fox

The copy I bought has a much more recent cover.

Yes, that is Colin Farrell in a still from the movie Alexander, which was the impetus of me wanting to read this book

Now I want to hurry up and finish reading The Persian Boy so I can crack this puppy open.

Pink dolphin!

Pink dolphin appears in US lake

The world's only pink Bottlenose dolphin which was discovered in an inland lake in Louisiana, USA, has become such an attraction that conservationists have warned tourists to leave it alone.

Charter boat captain Erik Rue, 42, photographed the animal, which is actually an albino, when he began studying it after the mammal first surfaced in Lake Calcasieu, an inland saltwater estuary, north of the Gulf of Mexico in southwestern USA.

Capt Rue originally saw the dolphin, which also has reddish eyes, swimming with a pod of four other dolphins, with one appearing to be its mother which never left its side.

He said: "I just happened to see a little pod of dolphins, and I noticed one that was a little lighter.

"It was absolutely stunningly pink.

"I had never seen anything like it. It's the same color throughout the whole body and it looks like it just came out of a paint booth.

"The dolphin appears to be healthy and normal other than its coloration, which is quite beautiful and stunningly pink.

"The mammal is entirely pink from tip to tail and has reddish eyes indicating it's albinism. The skin appears smooth, glossy pink and without flaws.

"I have personally spotted the pink dolphin 40 to 50 times in the time since the original sighting as it has apparently taken up residence with its family in the Calcasieu ship channel.

"As time has passed the young mammal has grown and sometimes ventures away from its mother to feed and play but always remains in the vicinity of the pod.

"Surprisingly, it does not appear to be drastically affected by the environment or sunlight as might be expected considering its condition, although it tends to remain below the surface a little more than the others in the pod."

Regina Asmutis-Silvia, senior biologist with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, said: "I have never seen a dolphin coloured in this way in all my career.

"It is a truly beautiful dolphin but people should be careful, as with any dolphins, to respect it - observe from a distance, limit their time watching, don't chase or harass it

"While this animal looks pink, it is an albino which you can notice in the pink eyes.

"Albinism is a genetic trait and it unclear as to the type of albinism this animal inherited."

A close relation of dolphins, the Amazon River Botos, called pink dolphins, live in South America in the Amazon.

Go me!

When I quit smoking (October 19th, 2005) I weighed 203 lbs.

I've always been a bit on the heavy side. I try to take care of myself, but I'm genetically cursed. My dad was/is a big dude.

But I digress.

Within a year after quitting smoking, I got up to 240 lbs and wearing a size 22. That's the biggest I've ever been in my life.

I started watching the portions of what I was eating (deprivation does not work for me. I end up binging.), and walking up to 2 miles a day.

As of right now, I'm down to 190 lbs and a
size 16.

I still want to lose another 30-40 lbs. But this is the smallest I've been in about 15 years.

So I'm pretty damn proud of myself.

w00t!

Here's why its a good idea...

...to be friends with a hairstylist.

I got this text after I signed offline yesterday to get ready for work.

Jared: where are you when I need you!!!!!

Me: getting ready for work!!! lol whats up?

Jared: Im wanting to comb in dark highlights because Im having pics done today and I cant get into my reg. salon. can I just comb them in, would it look the same as if she did it?

Me: I would only maybe do a few pieces around your face 'cuz its too easy to fuck it up doing it yourself.

Jared: well fuck

Me: see if you were here Id hook you up.

Jared: if I fuck it up, Im gonna be pissed...here goes nothin...

Me: DO NOT use an ash color. It will turn green. Let me know how it goes.

Jared: Im using black

Me: Dude you dont put black on top of bleach blond. It will have a muddy greenish cast to it.

(10 minutes later)

Jared: hm. I got scared and washed it out.

Me: Good. You would not have been happy with it at all. Why don't you just leave it?

Jared: I guess I am leaving it, lol...for now.

I rule. =]

What to do...

My long-time readers most likely remember Josh.

For those who don't, I dated Josh last summer for about a month and a half, knowing from the get-go that he was moving to Wisconsin. The last week before he left was kind of weird and awkward due to the fact the he (wrongly) thought I'd developed feelings for him. But by the time he left, we were on good terms, and we've stayed in touch.

So he texted me the other day and tells me he's moving back within the next couple of months. He's moving in with his aunt and transferring back to his old job.

He is kind of making me think he's wanting to pick up where we left off. Saying things like "we" should get season passes to Busch Gardens this summer, and texting me 3-4 times a day, as opposed to the once a week or so he's been texting me since he left.

So here's the thing. I'm more than willing to be friends and hang out with him. I'm just not sure I want anything beyond that.

I had some issues with him when we were dating that I never brought up because I knew we were just a temporary thing.

I also have some issues of my own that have nothing at all to do with him.

So...I'm bouncing back and forth between just letting whatever's gonna happen happen and bring the issues up as the opportunity arises. Or letting him know up front that I'm not sure I want to go there again and tell him why.

Help?

This song

will not get out of my head.

I just hope she's singing that to her girlfriend-beating (ex)boyfriend...

I can read you like a book.

I love to read. I don't make as much time for it as I should though.

I enjoy horror, historical fiction, gothic/paranormal romance, and poetry (I own the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe).

But my absolute favorites are biographies/autobiographies. People fascinate me.

Here are some autobiographies that I've read:

Gypsy by Gypsy Rose Lee
My Autobiography by Charles Chaplin
Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
The Long, Hard Road Out Of Hell by Marilyn Manson
Tommyland by Tommy Lee
Save Me From Myself by Brian "Head" Welch (formerly of Korn)

I have yet to read the autobiographies of Nikki Sixx, Dave Navarro and Anthony Kiedis. Fieldy (bass player from Korn) has one hitting the shelves in a couple of weeks. I'll be picking that up.

I've also read biographies on Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, U2, Korn, and a lot of other bands.

There's a couple of books on Alexander The Great (my fascination with whom I totally blame on a certain friend of mine *coughjaredcough*) that I'm looking to get. I may just have to order them online.

So tell me, dear readers, what kind of books do you like?

I have no title

I know I haven't been updating much lately, and when I do it's really not anything with much substance.

Work has just been kicking my ass lately and I really don't have a lot to talk/write about.

I'm actually getting a day off tomorrow, so maybe I'll come up with something interesting.

Oy...

I was very annoyed at this little kid running around my salon today while his mom was getting her hair done. He was playing with the chairs and getting into drawers and all that. I was in a cranky mood and was thisclose to going all Christian Bale on him.

"It's fucking DISTRACTING!"

Random acts of kindness

So I was cutting this Navy guy's hair today.

Not at all unusual considering I work 5 minutes from the largest Navy base on the East Coast. But I digress.

As I'm cutting his hair, this older lady comes in to buy some hairspray. We didn't have any on the shelf but I knew we had some in the back.

As I'm rummaging around in the back room looking for the hairspray, I hear them talking. I'm not really listening so I'm not sure what all they said to each other.

I go back out with the hairspray, and as I'm ringing up her purchase, she kind of leans in and quietly asks me how much the guy's haircut was. I told her the price, and she said "ring it up, I'll pay for it."

So she paid for a total stranger's haircut.

He was astounded and thought it was the sweetest thing ever.

So did I.

It did my heart good. =]

I feel like this:

I've worked the last 7 days in a row. I have one more day to work until I'm off. And I'm only off the one day.

We had a girl quit last week, which leaves us with 3.

We're all working extra to keep the shifts covered.

I'm actually getting 2 days off next week though.

But still...

This. Is. Awesome.

And I wish I'd thought of it.

Hackers Crack Into Texas Road Sign, Warn of Zombies Ahead

Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, "Zombies Ahead."

Chris Lippincott, director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation, confirmed that a portable traffic sign at Lamar Boulevard and West 15th Street, near the University of Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.

"It was clever, kind of cute, but not what it was intended for," said Lippincott, who saw the sign during his morning commute. "Those signs are deployed for a reason — to improve traffic conditions, let folks know there's a road closure."

"It's sort of amusing, but not at all helpful," he told FOXNews.com.

Tampering with portable road signs is illegal and potentially dangerous to drivers. It is a misdemeanor in Texas, with penalties ranging from fines to potential jail time.

Lippincott said the hacked sign — manufactured by IMAGO — is owned and operated by the city of Austin. Texas Department of Transportation signs have not been affected, he said.

"It is always possible that it could occur, but we attempt to prevent hacking incidents," Lippincott wrote in an e-mail. He declined to comment on security measures to protect the state's signs from hackers.

Austin Public Works spokeswoman Sara Hartley said the incident was not initially reported to police, but will be shortly. The sign was reverted back to its original message within hours, according to Hartley, who insisted the signs are tamper-resistant and equipped with external locks.

"This sign was broken into, it was not just a 'walk up and change the sign' kind of thing," Hartley told FOXNews.com. "This is a new one for us, we've never had it happen before."

She said she did not know whether any other signs in the area had been altered.

According to the blog i-hacked.com, some commercial road signs, including those manufactured by IMAGO's ADDCO division, can be easily altered because their instrument panels are frequently left unlocked and their default passwords are not changed.

"Programming is as simple as scrolling down the menu selection," i-hacked.com reports. "Type whatever you want to display … In all likelihood, the crew will not have changed [the password]."

I-hacked.com warns readers not to try to alter the signs, which cost roughly $15,000.

ADDCO Chief Operating Officer Brian Nicholson told FOXNews.com that the company is sending out notices to customers on the potentially dangerous security flaw.

"It's incumbent upon users to change the default password and secure the sign with a padlock," Nicholson said. "We're having our engineers review this information."

In the meantime, if you're driving in Austin, you can rest assured: There are no zombies ahead.

Happy Birthday to me

A friend of my mom's got me a lovely ceramic angel with my birthstone.

My mom got me a new pair of slippers (my old ones were raggedy) and the Indiana Jones DVD box set with all 4 movies. W00t! I'm a total Indy nerd. =]

Leave the politics to madmen

So today Barack Obama is being inaugurated into the office of President of the US of A.

And I really don't care.

Is it weird for someone my age to care as little about politics as I do?

Well, I care a little.

I'd like to see our economy whipped back into shape.

I have a good friend recently join the Marines. She's in boot camp right now. I have another good friend who is planning on joining the Marines later this year. While I'm proud of them for their decision to join up at this time, I fear for their safety. I'd like to see our troops pulled out of Iraq before either one of them have to go over there.

Hopefully Barack Obama is the man for the job.

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Meh...

So we had a girl quit today. She and the manager got into it and she quit. I fucking hate a stressful work environment, so I'm kind of glad she's gone.

I also found out my work schedule is being changed as of this week. I'm going to be off Mondays and Tuesdays, as opposed to Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Which totally fucks up the fact that mom was going to take me out to lunch on Wednesday for my birthday since I'm working on my actual birthday (Thursday). I think we're just gonna do it Tuesday instead.

Also...

Don't you just LOVE it when someone thinks you're mad at them when you don't answer a text/email within an hour when they should know you're at work and might just be busy?

Hi Jared!

lol

OMG

Metallica was amazing.

Too amazing for words.

I just can't describe it.

This might help.

That arena is freaking HUGE!

We were in the front row of the upper concourse. The view was actually really great from there.

The stage was set up in the center of the floor and the show was performed in the round. Which was awesome. Lars' drum kit rotated throughout the set.

James' vocals were spot on. Everything was just perfect.

I'm at a loss for words...

In case you hadn't noticed

I redid my blog again. Apparently the website that was hosting the background image I had is no more. That's what I get for not saving it to my computer or photobucket or something. I liked that one way better than this one.

So the Golden Globe Awards were last night. I watched it. I always do. And I have a few comments/observations.

1- I practically leaped out of my seat when they announced Heath Ledger as the winner for Best Supporting Actor. I sincerely believe he still would have won if he were still here. He deserved it. The Oscar is next!

3- I adore Kate Winslet. She seems like the sweetest person. I want to have tea with her.

3- Johnny Depp is like a fine wine. He's only gotten better with age. He's sexier now than he was in his 20s.

4- I want Colin Farrell to come to my house and read the dictionary to me. Hell, he could read anything to me he wants. I wouldn't care.
I was also pleasantly surprised by his Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) win. Oscar nomination in the near future? I hope so.

5- What the fuck happened to Mickey Rourke's face? Seriously??

And my favorite line of the night, courtesy of Mr. Farrell:

Friday, January 9, 2009

Apparently I need to update.

That's what Jared said anyway.

Not that I have anything interesting to write about.

We have a new girl at work. She started yesterday. I really like her so far. I got to show her how to do close-out tonight. I could tell she was paying attention. That's always a good sign.

I was talking to a co-worker about the Metallica show I'm going to next week, and this lady that was in there getting her hair colored told me she went to high school with former bassist Jason Newstead. She said she was mean to him because he was a metal guy and she was a cheerleader. (lol) But they ran into each other years later after he got all rich and famous, and he gave her big hug and was like "hey! How ya been?" and was really nice to her.

It's always awesome to find out famous people you've admired for years are really cool people.

Damnit

Since Jared is being an ass, I decided to cave and write something about my childhood.

The problem is, I dont remember a lot about my childhood.

I remember my parents splitting up when I was 7.

I remember my older half-brother running away from home shortly after that. He was gone for 3 weeks.

I remember first being exposed to rock music my aforementioned half-brother.

I remember being in 3rd or 4th grade and having to learn this song in music class...I don't remember what it was called. But it was about the 50 States and part of the song was singing the names of all 50 States in alphabetical order. I still know them.

I remember watching School House Rock and learning more about grammar and history than I did in school.

Conjunction junction...what's your function....

Something you may not know about me.

I can pull up and replace old caulk around a bathtub/sink/whatever.

I can replace a toilet handle.*

I can paint a popcorn ceiling.**

I can hook up a cable modem to a computer.

I can install a car stereo.

I can figure out how to use pretty much anything electronic without ever looking at an instruction manual.

Nothing really major. Just something I'm kind of proud of. It's good to be handy.

*I did that today.

A musical trend I've noticed...

...and surprisingly, enjoy.

Over the last 10-15 years, I've noticed numerous rock bands covering 80s songs. Mostly cheesy 80s pop songs. But not always.

The first one I really took notice of was Marilyn Manson's cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)".

Since then, Mr. Warner (that's Manson's real last name, folks) has also covered "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, and "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode... "Tainted Love" being my favorite.

Korn has covered "Word Up" by Cameo, and "Love My Way" by Psychedelic Furs.

Disturbed has covered "Shout" by Tears For Fears, and "Land Of Confusion" by Genesis.

Then we have Alien Ant Farm with their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal".

Mudvayne and 30 Seconds To Mars have both covered The Police, with "King Of Pain" and "Message In A Bottle", respectively.

And don't get me going on the 2 albums' worth of old-school punk covers that Metallica has done. If you want to hear one, "So What" is on my playlist.

Blasphemy!!

This story broke last summer. But I'm still pissed off about it...

Rocky Horror movie to be remade

Cult musical film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is to be remade 33 years after it as first released, it has been announced.

The new version of Rocky Horror, which was created by Richard O'Brien, will be co-financed by Sky Movies in the UK and MTV in the US.

The original 1975 film, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Meat Loaf, has become a kitsch classic.

The cast and director of the new version are yet to be announced.

The plot revolves around young American couple Brad and Janet who accidentally stumble into a strange world of alien transvestites and overt sexuality.

Lou Adler, executive producer on the original film, will return in the same role.

"The Rocky Horror phenomenon has a life of its own that has reincarnated itself in numerous ways since its birth," he said.

"Our hope has always been that each new endeavour and rebirth will expose the Rocky Horror experience to new audiences and expand the fan base."

He said the original film would continue to be enjoyed "by new fans and old alike".

Jim Sharman, who co-wrote the original screenplay and directed the film, said: "The original has some qualities that can't be reproduced but a remake could have its own very different strengths and qualities."

The new film will have its UK premiere on the Sky Movies channel.

The film started life as stage show The Rocky Horror Show in 1973.

It was adapted for cinema as The Rocky Horror Picture Show two years later and has generated an enthusiastic and dedicated following.

Audiences to both the stage and screen versions are encouraged to dress up like the show's characters.

AND!

Rocky remake leaves O'Brien cold

A remake of cult 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is being produced without the blessing of its creator Richard O'Brien, he has told the BBC.

It was announced on Wednesday that the new version, which will be co-financed by Sky Movies in the UK and MTV in the US, would be co-produced by O'Brien.

But he told the BBC he would not be involved "in any way".

"I have no view on whether it should be remade but it doesn't have my blessing," he added.

Sky announced on Wednesday that Lou Adler, executive producer on the original film, would return in the same role, while O'Brien would co-produce.

But, speaking on Wednesday afternoon, O'Brien told the BBC: "I'm not co-producing it and I won't be involved in any way.

"The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from US papers."

He later told BBC Radio 5 Live that his involvement had been announced "to suggest I've given the project my seal of approval".

The original was "a wonderful movie", he said.

"I don't know where they'll go with it really," he added. I've even heard that they're going to put new songs in. I wrote the book, the music and the lyrics. Where are they going to get the songs from? Who's going to do that? That's a bit strange isn't it?"

O'Brien said the stage show had gone from strength to strength with a production opening in Sydney recently and one due to open in Berlin by the end of the year.

This is wrong on so many levels.
